MOTHERS TEACH THEIR CHILDREN HOW TO GIVE BACK
By Eddie Chau, Staff

Dec 19, 2008
Friends Marsha Coppola and Kris Mongelluzzo wanted to teach their respective children what it's like to give back to the community.
"Our children already have everything, so it would be nice to teach them that it's nice to give to others," Coppola said. "Kris and I had been talking about how we can help out our community, so we decided to collect donations from the neighbourhood." Last week, Coppola and Mongelluzzo passed out more than 300 flyers door-to-door in their neighbourhood in the West Community of Thorold. The flyer asked neighbours to donate new, unwrapped toys and leave them on their doorsteps Sunday afternoon.
On Sunday, Coppola, Mongelluzzo and their children went through their neighbourhood to collect the toys for Community Care of St. Catharines and Thorold, a local food bank.
"My stairwell is already filled with toys from the neighbourhood and from family and friends," Coppola said.
"I have been receiving a few financial donations for Community Care," Mongelluzzo said. "The response has been great. The money will be used to buy food vouchers at Food Basics for those in need. It's our first time doing this and we hope to do it for years to come."
Coppola said she is prepared to collect toys and money next year as well. Coppola encourages residents to donate to Community Care to help out those in need.

2009 January Pajama Party and Shopping!
The 2nd Annual Pajama Party & Shopping Night was held on Wednesday, November 19th at the Four Points by Sheraton. Admission for Women in Niagara was a pair of new pajamas and a book, or $20 at the door. A complimentary spa service, wine and food tasting and door prizes were some of the highlights. The Pajama Program is a non-profit organization that provides new pajamas and books to children in need. The goal of the program is to contribute to a warmer, more loving environment for disadvantaged children in our own community.
